Immerse yourself in the music and lyrics of the most influential black women musicians in history. Dr. Tammy Kernodle, professor of musicology and Miami University, pianist and vocalist will take you on a historic musical tour through slavery, the Civil Rights Movements and the proliferation of the Black Power Movement of the 1970's. Through captivating storytelling and live musical performance, you will learn about women who used music as a means of documenting and promoting the struggle for equality and social justice in America.
Enjoy the history, lyrics and music of Billie Holiday, Lena Horne, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and many more greats - as performed with a three-piece band and told by Dr. Tammy Kernodle.
