Dinner and Show News!
Finneytown High School will explore uncharted territory this winter when it presents the student version of LES MISÉRABLES. Director Shawn Maus "dreamed a dream" years ago that students would someday mount a full-scale production of LES MISÉRABLES. That dream will be realized on January 30 through February 1, 2014. This powerful tale is a story of hope, redemption, and love. Epic, grand and uplifting, LES MISÉRABLES packs an emotional wallop that has thrilled audiences all over the world.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $8 for students.
FMPA invites you to enjoy unlimited spaghetti dinner by LaRosa’s, desserts donated by your neighbors, and entertainment by Finneytown’s finest musicians. On Friday, January 31st from 5-7PM, the Multipurpose Room is transformed into an Italian restaurant and nightclub. Take it easy, feed the family cheaply, and get a great parking place for the Finneytown High School theatre production of LES MISÉRABLES, which follows at the William Swartzel Performing Arts Center. Between bites and while you enjoy the music, browse the Bid-and-Buy tables! You can pick up some great deals while supporting the work of FMPA.

Neighborhood News
Beverly Dean, daughter of Jeff and Lyn Dean on View Place Dr., graduated from Alaska Pacific University on December 14th, 2013. She earned a bachelors in education. Jeff and Lyn just returned from Anchorage where they attended the graduation and had all kinds of other fun!
Jake Garrett, son of Katie and Aaron Garrett, is our new Hilltop News Carrier. Hilltop News is an invaluable means to stay connected to the community. Following in the footsteps of previous neighborhood carriers, he would appreciate your support and call Hilltop to subscribe to the newspaper. As you know, it's challenging doing the collection around the neighborhood. Some kids in other neighborhoods have shorter walks, sidewalks, and densely populated routes. So when our View Place kids take on this responsibility to collect, show your support by saying hello and being patient.

October 29, 2013
Dear FCA members,
It is time to renew
your membership in the Finneytown Civic Association for 2014. Your continued support
is crucial to the success of the FCA. We have worked hard to bring issues
forward, such as property maintenance, housing values, schools, safety, roads,
support of businesses through our Cash Mob project, and, working with the Springfield
Township government. We do this through public meetings, our web site
(fcaontheweb.org), and, our long-running Meet-the-Candidate’s Night.
The more members we
have, the stronger the impact we have on our community. The FCA encourages you
to get involved on a committee or as a trustee. Your input is important to the
future of Finneytown.
The membership dues
($10/person) have not changed for many years. Please consider an annual family
membership for only $20.
Your support enables
the Association to carry out our mission of “Working to Keep Finneytown a Great Place to Live”.
Also, consider
supporting to the Steve Elliott Community Service Scholarship, which annually
recognizes the community service of two graduating seniors from Finneytown High
School.

View Place Neighborhood Meeting
It was a pretty decent turnout for our neighborhood meeting at Gracepoint Church. In attendance from Finneytown Civic Association was Jim Golan and Dick Meyer letting us know that we were in good hands. Jeff Dean presided and gave his treasurer's report. He will write the final check from the View Place bank account as soon as he gets the last statement.
Like many other banks, Key Bank was charging monthly fees because our account was consired inactive because although we deposited the membership dues which flowed in infrequently, we only write a one or two checks a year to reimburse for the flowers and neighborhood activities.
Jeff has spent the last year calling up the bank each month asking them to waive the fee. A big thank you goes out to Jeff Dean for being such a good steward of our neighbhorhood money. He saved us considerable money that would have been swallowed up in fees by asking the bank for more time to settle our accounts.
We have over $1,300 in the account and rather than losing $60 in annual fees, we thought it was good idea to merge into the Finneytown Civic Association where they have free checking. It's an efficient use of our time and very good way to pool our resources. FCA assured us that they will keep aside our money for the upkeep of the flowers.
We will continue to keep our View Place designation as a neighborhood like Hollyhock Farms. We'll also continue the traditions of the parade, egg hunt, directory, and weblog. I'll try to keep everyone connected through the email and copy everything to Jim Golan.
In the meantime, visit the Finneytown Civic Association webpage and send in your membership. They do a lot of work in the community and will represent our concerns even better then when we had VPCA. I did mention the issues and concerns that were currently on the slate:
1) Concerns we had about being blocked in from St. X traffic and the high volume of traffic accidents
2) Current petition for sewers
One thing we're hearing is "rumors" about the church building a recreation center or gym on their property. Our relationship with the church has been very good so we know that the neighbors impacted by any plans will be involved in the planning stage.

Janet "Cookie" Dean
A very sad note here:
Janet "Cookie" M., 81, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away Saturday October 8, 2011. She loved singing in the church choir and she dearly loved her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Robert R. Dean; her children Jeff (Lyn) Dean, Pam (Scott) Leist and Chris (Pat) Dean; her grandchildren Travis, Bev, Kristin, Kimmy and Michael; her great grandson Keigan; nieces, nephews and cousins. Janet was one of five daughters of the late Howard and Agatha Kurtz. She is survived by her sister Helen Kurtz, and was preceded in death by her sisters Esther Baumer, Betty Parmley and Gatha Eha. Memorial service were held at St. Paul United Church of Christ 6997 Hamilton Ave. North College Hill on the following Thursday at 11:00 A.M. Family had a luncheon immediately following the service.
She was a member at St. Paul U.C.C. and also the Christian's Women's Club. If so desired remembrances may be sent to St. Paul United Church of Christ; Condolences may be sent to http://www.paulyoungfuneralhome.com/
My girls were always welcome over the house sharing recipes and stories! Just a few weeks ago, she told my next door neighbor to bring the baby over anytime! We will miss her so much!
Please give Mr. Dean a call or drop by to pay your respects! If he's not on the lawnmower, he's in his "man cave" watching a game or putting together a puzzle!

Thank You, Mrs. Beall
Mrs. Beall collected two pages of information and membership donations from neighbors on Commonweath! I'm just adding the email addresses to the contact list at Yahoo! right now. I'll note later who the neighbors are that made a membership donation. (I forgot the envelope at home so I can't do it right now!)
Thank you, Mrs. Beall!

Private Drive Collapses for Third Time in 15 years!
There is a private drive that has collapsed for the second time. At least 6 neighbors need access through this road. Are there any neighbors willing to help out? The bids coming in are very expensive -- in the thousands -- and we are hoping to get some help from the neighborhood. If you can help out, please contact viewplacenews@yahoo.com. Make sure to identify yourself by putting your last name and address in the "subject" box otherwise I cannot open the email.

Arlene Norris of Beechtree Passed Away
Just heard that Arlene Norris passed away this month. Some of the neighbors in View Place remember Mrs. Arlene Norris who was endeared as one of the "originals" of the neighborhood -- someone who found time for gardening, parenting, and coordinating schedules that would run rings around most of us today.

EASTER EGG HUNT THIS SATURDAY!!!
We didn't forget ....
The annual neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt will take place this Saturday at the Badger Home located at 7633 Keats in the backyard beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the top of the hill. Parking is available at the church. You'll see us out there hunting for eggs. I have to go to a bell choir practice so I would appreciate if anyone can stay from 10:20 until 11 a.m.
Why is the Easter Egg Hunt at the Badger Home? Mrs. Badger let us use her backyard last year so she could watch the kids from her kitchen window and my daughter suggested we do it again even though Mrs. Badger will be with us in spirit.
I also hope that all our View Place family & neighbors will take every opportunity to see the home before it goes on the market this Monday.... it's such a beautiful home and if my chimney wasn't leaking right now I would buy it in a heartbeat. But I can't sell my home with a leaky chimney, right?
The home is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. No leaks. And remember this is the home Art Badger built after they moved from their home on Brucehills to make way for Ronald Reagan Hwy. I hope somebody out there will appreciate the historic significance of this home. The Badgers were respected by the neighborhood and also much beloved by the kids who are all grown up raising their own families ... hint ... hint ....
Hope to see you at the Easter Egg Hunt!!!!!
