Position Openings for Springfield Twp.

Springfield Township Police Department
Positioned To Hire Top Cops In The Region
Now Hiring Part and Full-Time Officers

(June 3, 2013 Springfield Township, Hamilton County, OH) The Springfield Township Board of Trustees and staff have long placed a high priority on the need and value for quality long-range planning efforts involving all aspects of Township operations and endeavors. This, combined with making difficult decisions, adopting fiscally responsible budgets and developing a number of innovative programs and solutions have allowed the Township to remain sustainable during the recent economic and housing crisis and have positioned the community well to address the continual future challenges it will face.

Organizational, policy and operational modifications in the Township's Police Department are representative of actions that are taking place in all Township departments in order to meet the Board's goal of delivering the highest level of service to residents and business in the most effective and efficient manner.

The Police Department is now positioned to hire part and full-time officers as a result of a number of recent retirements in the Department. Recruiting is now underway in a search for top talent.

Police Chief Dave Heimpold hopes to acquire a long list of highly qualified candidates to interview for various vacant positions. At full-staff, the department operates with 46 officers, which makes it the third largest law enforcement agency in Hamilton County. "We serve the community with the highest level of service and have been successful in finding innovative ways to secure long-term stability of the department. We have incurred a number of retirements over the past few months which now places openings for experienced officers " explains Heimpold.

As one of the leading police departments in the state, Springfield Township operates a full-serviceforce. The department employs, promotes and trains top detectives, traffic patrol, drug enforcement, school resource and K-9 officers. Unlike smaller cities and most townships, Springfield Township does not contract with the county for service. Chief Heimpold explains, "We offer mutual aid services to surrounding communities whenever assistance is requested and/or an officer with a specialized area of expertise is requested."

Township officials instill a dedication to training in the Department. Trustee Tom Bryan reflects, "We want the best, so we train them to be the best." This philosophy is shared among the entire department. Interim Assistant Chief Rick Bley is the fourth in the department to be recently accepted into the elite FBI National Academy. The ten-week program, held in Quantico, Virginia,is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement leaders that serves to improve the executive and administrative skills in police departments. Participation is by invitation only, through a nomination process. In 1983 Springfield Township Police Chief David Heimpold graduated from this nationally acclaimed program, followed by Lt. David Schaefer in 2000 and Assistant Chief Robert Browder in 2006.

The agency underwent its sixth accreditation review by Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in March, 2013. Upon an extensive review process, the Police Chief was notified that the department was recommended for full reaccreditation and has also been recommended to receive an Award of Excellence, the highest award, awarded by CALEA. The reaccreditation and Award of Excellence will be determined by the Commission and awarded following a hearing before the Commission during the CALEA Conference and Awards Banquet on August 3, 2013.
