(SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Hamilton County, Ohio, April 4, 2013) Springfield Township is full of activity this weekend as the spring season finally arrives! Here are a few activities you can participate in this weekend.


Friday, April 5th: The Springfield Township Arts and Enrichment Council will host an improv showdown featuring Cincinnati's leading improv entertainment troupe, The Middle Child. Show-only tickets are on sale now and at the door for $19. Local jazz musicians, Jay Valerio, Rick Kennedy & Joe Hickey will play during the dinner/ cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m.  RESERVE SHOW-ONLY TICKETS HERE  This is a 21 and over event. Saturday, April 6th: Finneytown Athletic Boosters is hosting a 5K race fundraiser. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the high school. Race-day registration is $25 for adults or $15 for kids, 14 and under. All registrations include goodie bags, chip-timing, post-race refreshments and a chance to win door prizes and awards. Step off at 9 a.m.
The following streets are affected by the race route and will be temporarily closed during the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Fountainebleau Terr, Mockingbird Ln., Thunerbird Ave., Cottonwood Dr., Hempstead Dr., and Vacationland Dr. 

Sunday, April 7th: Springfield Township, The Powel Crosley Jr. YMCA and the Finneytown Athletic Organization together will host Major League Baseball's official Pitch Hit & Run local level competition at Helwig Park. This is a free skills competition for boys and girls, ages 7-14.  Registration will begin at the park at 2p.m. Players must bring a copy of their birth certificate in order to compete. Once registered, kids will test their hitting, pitching and base running abilities. Registrations will be accepted until 3 p.m. The competition will end when the last person has completed their skills assessment. First, second and third place participants in each age and gender category will receive a certificate. First place and overall winners in each skill will advance to the sectionals.
